Commercial Art

Weston 10 May 2008

This is as “Australiana” as it gets. The quiet village of Weston amid the lower Hunter coalfields under a glorious autumn sky. This classic shop sports commercial art of mixed message: an Arnotts Biscuits rosella next to a Westons Biscuits name in a suburb called Weston. Splendid.

My Dad was a signwriter – this is fine piece of precision work, especially on a brick surface.

Rice’s Bookshop Hunter Street ~ 21 August 2005

Not just any old bookshop – one of the city’s oldest. Formerly Mann’s Bookshop, moved here from King Street back around 1960. Throsby has a few thousand volumes bought at this shop from his high school day, finding many 19th century books, one dated 1831.

I don’t know

Just found this among the commercial pics, taken 26 January 2007, at Croudace Bay I believe. This little guy is well into high school by now. The seagull probably at uni.
