James Street Plaza Masterplan Concepts on exhibition.

Plans to upgrade James Street Plaza on Beaumont Street, Hamilton, comprise two concepts: ‘Urban Oasis’ and ‘Modern Town Square.’

James Street Plaza is in many ways the centre of Beaumont Street,” said CoN Councillor Carol Duncan.

We’ve been working with those who know Hamilton best to come up with designs that will revitalise this important community space.”

We’ve had a strong response to our engagement so far, with fantastic ideas on how people think we could bring this place to life. I encourage the community to now tell us what they think about the masterplan concepts so that we can deliver a vibrant, safe and active public place in the heart of Hamilton.”

Upgrades to seating, creative lighting, garden planting and ways to activate the space with live music and performances are some of the ideas that emerged through the consultation that occurred earlier this year.

The James Street Plaza Master Plan concepts are on extended public exhibition from today through to 13 January 2020, with the community able to have their say via www.newcastle.nsw.gov.au

City of Newcastle will also host a Have Your Say drop-in session on the concept designs at the Clock Tower Markets from 8am – 1pm on Saturday 14 December.

Once community feedback has been collated the James Street Masterplan will be finalised and considered by City of Newcastle’s elected council in early 2020.
