Redhead Beach Access Ramp

Filed under Council, News ~ by Press on  4 May 2019

An accessible ramp is being built for easier entry to Redhead Beach.

The ramp will especially benefit wheelchair users, people using mobility aids and parents using prams.

Lake City’s Disability Inclusion Action Plan found a need to improve access to beaches and waterways for people with disability.

The construction of the ramp will provide equal opportunity for people with disability to access the beach and participate in water activities, as well as to the wider community including parents with younger children.

The plan has provided beach wheelchairs, built an accessible viewing platform at Blacksmiths Beach, and improved access to swim centres, surf clubs and beach amenities.

Completion is expected before July, ahead of the 2019 beach season.
