Concept for Veterans Memorial Park at Aberdare

The concept plans for the upgrade of the Veterans Memorial Park are on exhibition and council seeks feedback on the design.

The plan proposes the removal of existing play equipment, deteriorated pathways and park furniture.

Design legend:

  9. Exiting veteran memorial

New play elements will be installed for young children up to teenagers, including a combo nest swing, accessible spinner, inclusive rocker, junior unit, senior unit and aero skate.

The plan also caters for those who enjoy a visit to the park on wheels. A bike/scooter track will be installed with some bike racks.

Visitors will also enjoy the installation of a shade sail, a safer surface, new shelters, a drinking fountain and improved landscaping.

Cessnock City Mayor, Councillor Bob Pynsent said the concept design has something for everyone including additional pathways, a BBQ area, improved seating and solar lighting.

Public spaces need to change with the growing demands of the community. The proposed work offer something for everyone regardless of age or ability.

We want everyone to be able to enjoy the fresh air and get active.”
