What we are

NewcastleOnHunter is a community information website published and maintained by a citizen of the city.

The interest of NewcastleOnHunter is civic and community news, public art, cityscapes, and imagery of the Newcastle region, the Hunter Valley, and nearby coastal and inland districts.

Agriculture and small farms are also a fond concern, both in the Hunter region and NSW generally.

Ambulance chasing and pub brawls are not our forte.

This website is the work of a self-funded private citizen who earns no revenue from any site-related source – content, advertising, or donor.

Advertisements of commercial goods, services, or businesses, that (sparingly) might appear on NewcastleOnHunter are gratis endorsements for their perceived community value.*

News-worthy media releases that unavoidably advertise or promote a business are categorised “commercial” in the byline.

The owner has no political or activist affiliations, runs no business or company, and has no shares or investments to affect or promote the content published here. In short, content is selected by personal preference in the hope that readers will be interested and informed.

In the spirit of free press, we try hard to serve no agenda – and will even stoop to publishing news we disagree with!

NewcastleOnHunter receives no income from advertising, donations, or any external source. The website and its activities are fully funded by the owner.

No endorsement is suggested by published content of a commercial nature, by commercial entities linked to from this website, or by retweets on our Twitter or Facebook feeds.

Some content will represent commercial interests. Sourced from unsolicited media release services, it will be published if, in the editor’s view, it has merit, is in the public interest, or it further inform a topic, issue, industry, or technology.

* Exceptions to apparent commercial approbation of some venue or business are those considered by the owner of this website to offer information or community value – which is, after all, its mission. Typical examples of such unpaid and unsolicited articles, mentions, or links, would be Hunter Valley Gardens and similar tourism venues, or tourist services, such as Lake Macquarie or Port Stephens boat cruises.

Or, and especially, small businesses with a unique or novel appeal that enrich our social and cultural landscape.s
