Five people spray-painted a train in the Illawarra early this morning.

The train was en route from Sydney to Wollongong when it stopped at Otford Railway Station about 12.40am (Saturday 31 May 2014).

Police were told five people spray-painted two carriages with graffiti while it was stopped at the platform. All had their faces covered.

A search of the area was conducted and several items seized for forensic examination. A police dog tracked a scent to nearby Station Street, where investigators believe their car was parked.

Police are now appealing for information to identify those responsible.
