Raymond Terrace Men’s Shed officially opens with open day on Saturday 4 August 2012.
Within a year the shed is a “thriving operation” with woodworking, computer, fishing and social activities for members.
We have had tremendous help from all levels of government, with moral, financial, and in kind assistance,” Said Robert Bull Shed President.
The shed provides a place for men to meet in an informal way replacing the socialisation provide in their workplaces prior to retirement.”
Women tend to discuss life’s issues face to face where men have such discussions shoulder to shoulder in a cooperative working environment,” he said.
The men’s shed movement is supported by the Commonwealth department of health and organisations such as the Black Dog Institute various prostate cancer groups and Beyond Blue.
The shed movement is recognised as an enjoyable socially based preventative health initiative.
The official opening by Councillor Glenys Francis who is also a Clinical Nurse Consultant in aged care and, solid supporter of the formation of the shed will take place at 11:30.
All are invited for a sausage sandwich and tea or coffee from Raymond Terrace Lions Club
