Newcastle Art Space textile and fibre-based art exhibit opens at 6pm Friday 10 August 2012.
The showing, curated by Newcastle-based artist Ahn Wells is titled “HANDWISE V” and can be seen in the Art Space at 246 Parry St Hamilton East.
Ahn Wells started the Handwise Exhibitions with the idea to explore the concept of making artworks which are based on fibre and textile materials or techniques. The aim of these exhibitions is to widen audience’s expectations and appreciation of contemporary Fibre and Textile Art.
The Handwise Exhibitions have been exhibited at local artist-run galleries annually since 2008. Featured artists for 2012 are Joy Smith, Soozie Coumbe, Niomi Sands, Nerida Ackland, Olivia Parsonage, Annemarie Murland, Bree Cunningham, Gillean Shaw, Ahn Wells, Brett Alexander, Christian Kauter, Chris Brown, John Parkes, Emily Roberts, Angela Armstrong, Robyn Nunan, Jan Downes, Ruth Freeney, and Emma-Lee Crane.
