From 1 February 2010 for 26 weeks a team of volunteers will be assisting the Rail Motor Society in Paterson to catalogue their collection of railway memorabilia.
All volunteers will receive accredited Certificate in First Aid Level 1, training in Occupational Health and Safety, uniform and personal protective equipment, hands on training in cataloguing and assistance with transport costs
The Rail Heritage Care Program is helped by Conservation Volunteers Australia (CVA) with local and international volunteers assist in conserving the rail heritage assets of NSW through a number of interesting projects.
Regional Manager for CVA in Newcastle, Leonie Winner announced partnership with the Office of Rail Heritage and the opportunities that will be available to volunteers over the coming months.
The preservation of Australian heritage is very important to every Australian citizen, and CVA is proud to be associated with the NSW Office of Rail Heritage in helping to restore and maintain historic items for future generations,” Leonie said.
It is intended that with all these extra hands willing to help, the Rail Motor Society of Paterson will be able to achieve results that may otherwise have taken months or not happened at all.
CVA would love to hear from anyone interested in participating in these activities. It is a fantastic opportunity to learn about Australia’s rail history and to contribute to the preservation of our rail heritage.” Leonie said.
Conservation Volunteers Australia is Australia’s leading organisation for practical conservation, completing more than 2000 conservation projects across Australia every year.
