CONSERVATION VOLUNTEERS NEW PROJECT WITH NSW OFFICE OF RAIL HERITAGE
Conservation Volunteers Australia (CVA) is excited to announce a new partnership with the NSW Office of Rail Heritage that will see local and international volunteers assisting rail heritage volunteer organisations throughout NSW with maintenance and upkeep of historic rail items.
The initiative, Rail Heritage Care, commences this week when a team of nine local volunteers travel to Paterson to work with the Rail Motor Society.
On Tuesday, 10 November 2009, volunteers recruited in Newcastle will become a Fast Track Heritage project team, undertaking a range of activities important to the upkeep of the Paterson facility, such as landscaping, small scale building, painting and cataloguing of historical documents.
“It is intended that with all these extra hands willing to help, the Rail Motor Society of Paterson will be able to achieve results that may otherwise have taken months or not happened at all,” said Leonie Winner, Regional Manager for CVA in Newcastle.
The preservation of Australian heritage is very important to every Australian citizen, and Conservation Volunteers is proud to be associated with the NSW Office of Rail Heritage in helping to restore and maintain historic items for future generations.”
In conjunction with the Fast Track Heritage work, Rail Heritage Care is also putting together a Rail Reserve project, where members of the community can apply to participate in a 26 week program of volunteering at Paterson for up to two days per week. Over this time, volunteers will learn a variety of skills related to rail restoration and managing heritage objects. They will also be trained in First Aid and OH and S. Successful applicants will receive a distinctive uniform.
If over 18 and can commit to attending for 2 days per week over 6 months, you are urged to contact CVA for more information.
Conservation Volunteers would love to hear from anyone interested in participating in these activities. It is a fantastic opportunity to learn about Australia’s rail history and to contribute to the preservation of our rail heritage.” Leonie said.
And at the same time, the participants learn skills that look good on a job application, meet others with similar interests and learn about our unique history.”
Conservation Volunteers Australia is Australia’s leading organisation for practical conservation, completing more than 2000 conservation projects across Australia every year.
