NSW LIBERALS & NATIONALS TO HOST CESSNOCK SOCIAL FRAMEWORK COMMUNITY CONSULTATION MEETING
Parliamentary Secretary to the Leader of The Nationals and Duty MLC for Cessnock Trevor Khan announces that the NSW Liberals/Nationals will hold a social policy framework community consultation meeting in Cessnock on Tuesday 17 November 2009 from 6pm.
The meeting will be held at the Cessnock Rugby League Supporters Club and all members of the public are welcome to participate.
Trevor Khan will host the meeting with Shadow Minister for Police and the Hunter, Michael Gallacher, Shadow Minister for Aging and Disability Services Andrew Constance, Shadow Minister for Community Services and Women Pru Goward, Shadow Minister for Healthy Lifestyles and Aboriginal Affairs Kevin Humphries and Opposition Parliamentary Secretary for Education and Aboriginal Affairs and Chair Hunter Task Force Robyn Parker in attendance so that the public can play a direct role in the NSW Liberal/Nationals policy development process.
The NSW Liberal/Nationals have released a set of principles and goals to build a smarter, stronger, healthier and safer community,” Trevor Khan said.
These principles and goals will provide a roadmap of how we intend to implement social policy in Government.
Good policy is not developed behind closed doors. It is developed in close consultation with the community, business sector and stakeholders.”
Our six social policy principles are:
- The importance of early intervention and prevention.
- The value of local decision making and community partnerships.
- The rights of individuals to make informed choices and the expectation they will accept responsibility.
- The belief that NSW should offer the highest quality and standard of services in Australia.
- A promise to deliver timely and equitable services for all.
- A commitment to openness, transparency and accountability.
The public consultation meeting in Cessnock is an opportunity for local residents to provide feedback and input on how to best achieve our social policy goals and principles,” Trevor Khan said.
I encourage all interested parties to come along and participate in this process.”
