THANK A VOLUNTEER DURING NATIONAL SES WEEK
November 7th to 15th 2009
The Commissioner of the New South Wales State Emergency Service, Murray Kear, has called upon the community to take the time in November to thank an SES volunteer.
Mr Kear said that National SES week will run between 7th to the 15th November, providing the community with the ideal opportunity to thank those who volunteer their services during times of crisis.
The SES is one of the most diverse and widely used of the emergency services,” Mr Kear said.
SES volunteers are a familiar sight in their orange overalls as they assist their community during floods and following a severe storm.”
SES volunteers also undertake a wide range of other roles including road crash and general rescue, searches for lost or missing people, support to the Rural Fire Service in bushfire emergencies and emergency first aid in isolated communities.”
During National SES Week I urge everyone to take the time to thank a family member, work colleague or friend for the selfless work they undertake as an SES volunteer.”
City of Newcastle SES Media Officer Mr Garry Luxton said “that another way that the public can show their support for the SES is to wear something orange on Friday November 13th instead of the traditional black for Friday the 13th”.
Friday the 13th can be ‘Wear Orange to Work Day’, Garry Luxton said.
Orange is the colour worn by SES volunteers. By wearing something orange you can show your solidarity and support for the volunteers of the SES.”
Mr Kear paid tribute to the SES volunteers for their tireless work to protect and assist the community in times of emergencies and natural disasters.
The SES’ 10,000 volunteers are ready around the clock to help when they’re needed, often in the most trying and inclement conditions,” he said.
“I congratulate them on their efforts in helping to ensure the safety of the New South Wales community.”
National SES Week runs from the 7th to the 15th of November.
