ALL CREATURES GREAT AND SMALL JOIN THE SONG COMPANY FOR CHRISTMAS IN NEWCASTLE
A veritable Noah’s Ark of animals – wolves, oxen, cats, dogs, tigers, lambs, donkeys, ducks and doves to name but a few – will feature in the playful and poignant conclusion to The Song Company’s 2009 season.
Australia’s leading vocal ensemble is set to reprise its popular Christmas concert, A Free Range Christmas, at the Newcastle Conservatorium, on Friday 18 December.
Delighting adults and children alike in 2005, the extravaganza of songs, stories, carols and poems focuses on animals from around the world, including the domestic, the wild, the fury, the slimy, the alive and the extinct.
Classics such as The Ugly Duckling, The Inch Worm, Winnie the Pooh, Carol of the Birds and the 12 Days of Christmas will be delivered by The Song Company in its inimitable style.
These are songs and stories that we all hear as children, yet they each have a simple charm and magic that continues to appeal to us as adults,” said Artistic Director Roland Peelman.
In addition to traditional Christmas standards, A Free Range Christmas will also introduce audiences to modern gems from Australian composer Martin Wesley-Smith and international carols from France, Canada and the Czech Republic.
The Song Company will even present their quirky version of a certain song about a red-nosed reindeer.
We’ve presented some quite serious and sombre-themed programs in 2009 and A Free Range Christmas, which was so popular with families four years ago, it seems like the perfect way to end the year with a dose of wit and wonder,” said Mr Peelman.
